We need to Talk--Thor and Loki's dysfunctional relationship in partial defense of Loki

I've discussed a lot of things previously about Thor, and especially Loki. Now here comes the ultimate rundown of their relationship as siblings.

I want to make a big case for adopted siblings, right here and now. It's no different, nor should it be, than having a biological sibling, especially if they were raised together. Yes, I know there aren't any genetic complications, but shipping them is just damn morally creepy, guys. So, no, I DON'T SHIP IT. (Also yeah, I totally get a queer vibe from Loki, but Thor is 500% straight. Dem abs, and Natalie Portman, lol.)

Whatever. I'm done.

Okay. So, we need to talk. Loki and Thor. So, tons of spoilers for Thor movies and the Avengers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Loki is a layered and complex character compared to Thor, but Thor is not perfect. At least not in the beginning. (Dem abs, though.) Yeah, Loki sets him up, but Thor is a reckless King, and he does lose his temper. A lot. Actually, like all the time. I get it. Anger management issues suck. I have them, Thor. But could you at least try.

One scene that got to me in Ragnarok takes places after SPOILER: Odin dies. Loki and Thor are standing in the field in Norway, obviously dazed. (Throughout the scene, Loki has been looking conflicted, and almost sad. He is dealing with the guilt of never forgiving his father.) I should point out that Loki once said in the Avengers to Thor that Odin is "your father," and not "our father." Obviously being saved by Odin, and knowing how horribly he treated him, never forgiving him is an emotional blow. Also, he must be feeling an extreme amount of guilt for everything, and causing Ragnarok. He's probably suffering from a lot of guilt and shock. And he needs help. He begins to reach out to Thor, saying, "Brother...."

And what does Thor do? His hands begin to spark in anger, and he drives home the guilt even farther, saying, "This was your doing." He is clearly mad. Mad at Loki. Trust me, it's justified. Loki has done some horrible things, intentional and unintentional. I'd be mad too. If my dad just evaporated into the afterlife, I'd blame the first person I saw. And plenty reason to blame Loki. I get it. I'd do it to. Fortunately, before Thor can lash out, Hela distracts them, causing them to refocus their energy, and ultimately get separated. Well, you get the point.

What was Loki trying to say. "Brother, I'm sorry." "Brother, I know this is my fault." "Brother, I can't believe what's happening." "Brother, what do we do?" "Brother, help me." Or any number of things. Clearly, we need to talk. Or they need to talk whatever. Clearly, what Loki needs now is emotional support. He needs someone to tell him it's going to okay. He needs someone to forgive him. It may be impossible, but it's what he needs.

If Thor could at least say something other than pushing more guilt on him. He needs some sort of validation.

There are countless other times Thor bullied Loki unnecessarily, like seriously? Keep him indefinitely tased, ugh. Yeah, I know Loki was setting him up, but f&%$*@g talk it out!!!!!!!!!!! Don't throw stuff at real Loki!!!!!!!!!!!! And just be nice.

Yes, I understand Loki has been evil. But he needs validation and love. It's so hard....uggghhh. If someone gave Loki what he needs (not wants, desperately needs.) Maybe, just maybe he would get better.

THINK ABOUT HOW YOU TREAT YOUR SIBLINGS, GUYS.
